Green tea has been used as an aid to good health in China and India for over 5,000 years, and modern science has now begun to recognize its remarkable antioxidant properties.

These results indicate that there is something more than just the caffeine content boosting the metabolism. Green tea is rich in polyphenols, specifically those called catechins.

These substances are known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, but are now emerging as an aide to reduce body fat accumulation and reduce cholesterol levels.

An intake equivalent to at least 4 cups a day is required to see the benefits. These catechins work to increase fat oxidation and increase the rate at which your body naturally burns calories.

It is also suggested that green tea might help to reduce the movement of glucose into fat cells, acting as a natural glucose regulator.

This would help to slow the rise in blood sugar after consuming a meal. Preventing insulin spikes would reduce the fat storage as insulin is known to promote the storage of fat.
